Malcom Mufunde's Trash Album Surpasses First 1300 streams - Chinamasa Endorse it
We may all agree that the future is somewhat unpredictable but after the wide success of Syn City in late 2012, who ever thought that Synik would go from producing a classic album to "Trash" and Hon Chinama would endorse it?
Yes, Synik recently produced a Malcom Mufunde (some mistake him for Malcolm Mufunde) 10 track album called Trash. And it is fire. Literally
The Concept Behind The Album
In the month of April, I triggered a swarm of Hip-hop fans after making a series of posts about incoherent rap lyrics in Zimbabwean Hip-hop. There were mixed feelings about my message with a lot of people alleging that I was attacking Chitungwiza born rapper R.Peels (whom I have indeed dissed in the past - just not in those posts)
The result was a long winding thread which involved me, Brian Willis , Nigel Chaitezvi (Matyrphor), Kwanele Mswelanto and Ree Mwase. At the end of that thread as resolutions were made, Malcom Mufunde promised to immediately start working on an incoherent album.
Trash - was the outcome.
The album was literally meant to be trash, but it falls short as far as its goal is concerned. Perhaps the artist decided to use sarcasm. The album is filled with brilliant lyrics, that the artist has gone on to create Rap Genius annotations for as many of them may be hard to decipher off the top of the head.
Malcom Mufunde has reserved his seat amongst the adept when it comes to well articulated lyricism.
People from different spaces have come out in support of this meme album. These include Synik himself, BA7, D.S Kupara, Cashbid and Zimbabwe's former finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa, who even lauched the product years before it's release.
Word Play
Regardless that the album is a meme album, it still managed to be fortified with a lot of beautiful wordplay. If you are an avid listener of Hip-hop and well informed about popular culture you may pick up some of the lines without rushing to Google.
However sometimes you may not. Malcom Mufunde is a young man who is into rare types of content and some bars are simply more apparent if you are aware of the incident or phenomenon he is making a play on.
For instance where makes references to ideas that are not so popular in the mainstream.
Perhaps I am the one who lives under a rock, but I never would have made this connection:

I would not be surprized if Malcom were nominated for Zim Hip-hop Awards best Album category. Yes along side serious projects such as Ti Gonzi Sendiri 2, Holy Ten - Risky Life and Crooger's Concrete Jango album.
Malcom Mufunde Does Have A Fan Base
Though he may come off as a shadowy geek, behind glasses. Malcolm Mufunde's previous albums have generated him a fanbase on Audiomack where his account boast of an average of 338 monthly listeners (these are averages). When he drops a project however its automatically syndicated into thousands of home pages from people who may not even be Zimbabweans.
More than 3 of his old projects boast of numbers higher than 1600 streams and anyone who has ever made a song and tried to get listens can tell you this is a lot especially from a hobbyist artist who does not roll out a definitive PR strategy. He just raps because he enjoys it.
Perhaps in the same way, a soccer fan who has no intentions of making it a career can kick it at the community stadium with his Church peers on a sunny weekend.

Malcom Mufunde's trash album has itself accumulated 1300 plays. I believe this time around a large chunk of the data will indicate that they are from Zimbabwean IP addresses. I was just highlighting hower that in the past this was probably not the case.
That is why Malcom can have 1600 streams on a song, that a large number of Zimbabwean Hip-hop fans swear they have never come across.
Going forward its time to even back such talent with more support. We should also make this album a centre of attention like an N, as the artist says in one of his lines.
