Would You Play Winky D Happy Again as A Stand Alone Audio?

The Ninja President, Winky D recently released a video to a song titled "Happy Again" , directed by Shawn Ray and as usual Facebook and Twitter users chimed in to give their polarized 2 cents. If you have engaged with Zimbabwean social media for a while you may already know how that goes.

I generally loved the video and how it was executed and I will explain why I think it's such a master-piece. I am aware that music is subjective and thus I respect anyone who thinks otherwise. I will also address these alternative views and address where they do make a point.

Winky D  has an adherent cult following which will lynch anyone who does not think anything he is Amazing, on the other hand there are some people seem not to like Winky D (no matter what he does) and finally there are people who are neutral. Sometimes they like a Winky D project and sometimes they simply do not.

I consider myself a neutral fan. I do not usually follow up on Winky D's music to be honest. I also do not tend to hate on him for the sake of it. Thus I believe my take to be balanced.

What did I like about Happy Again Video?

He invested very  much in story telling through the visuals. Visuals have got a way of giving viewers an experience that allows them to imagine the concept being propagated. The direction of the story was easy to predict, but also easy to follow. Shawn Ray is a good director.

Script critics my have a problem with the predictability, it has a cliché Nigerian Movie story plot to it. A Princess who is willing to sabotage her Royal privileges to be with a commoner whom she has found love with.

However considering that it's not a  movie and it's just a music video. I'd say that's brilliant. Most music videos these days don't have anything going on after all other than luxury cars, beautiful girls, dancing and swimming pools.

I guess since I experienced the song primarily through the video, the audio inherited my enjoyment of what was happening within the video.

What are Winky D critics saying?

Most critics whose posts I have read are in agreement that it is a well invested video. Their concern is if the audio is worth playing alone.

They are presenting the question, "Would you enjoy the new Winky D as a stand-alone audio?"

The supporters have chimed in to say they would.

Would I play Happy Again as a stand alone audio?

My response is absolutely. I think it's a good chill song and I know most people look at it from the perspective of, "Can you dance to it?"

However I personally don't even listen to dance songs in the first place. I love concept art that's why I am in love with Hip-hop. It has a lot of that going on in it.

I don't believe that every song has to be something to play at a wedding or Christmas party to be amazing.

The Nutty O vs. Winky D comparisons

People will always make comparisons between top artists. Long ago they would compare Winky D to Jah Prayzah. Now they are comparing him to Nutty O.

It's a fun thing to do. It adds another dimension to the conversation, but we can always listen to both brilliant artists regardless which one is better in your mind.

You know you are winning when you reach a stage in your career where people can compare you to Winky D whether you win or lose that poll. Just being compared means you have reached a certain height you weren't prior to that.

That's my 98 Cents.

Enjoy the video
